Australia has a desperate shortage of high-quality mental health care. Many Australians are often forced to wait months and months to see a psychiatrist, pay exorbitant fees for poor service, or risk relying on crisis care or hospitalization to have their mental health condition assessed and treated.
The cost to individuals, and the community is high.
At Mindsight, we believe we have found an answer - the Mental Health GP.
If you are stuck and need to see a high-quality mental health professional, make an appointment to see one of our Mental Health GPs today.

A Mental Health GP (MHGP) is a fully qualified Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Our MHGPs have had many years of regular GP practice experience.
However, they also have a passion and focus for treating mental health conditions and have done special training in this area, which allow their patients to access medicare rebates for therapy with a MHGP.
Our MHGPs treat:
Any member of the public who has a mental health concern can see one of our MHGPs, without a referral. You may have found that a regular GP has difficulty finding the time to adequately assess and treat your mental health concerns. Our MHGPs have the time and expertise to do so. If needed, they can involve our consultant psychiatrists in co-managing your condition.
Our MHGPs do not bulk bill, as their work and expertise is highly valued. However, sessions with our MHGPs attract a medicare rebate, and any out of pocket costs count towards the Medicare Safety Net. You can find out more about the Safety Net in our "FAQ" section.
Please contact us to enquire about their fees, and to make an appointment.
The advantage of seeing one of our MHGPs is that there is virutally no wait. You can simply book an appointment with our team, without a referral. You will still get an expert assessment and management plan, and if needed your GP will consult with one of our consultant psychiatrists for advice, a second opinion, or to take over care.
If you are on a waiting list to see one of our consultant psychiatrists, or your appointment is more than 3 months away, you may be offered an appointment with one of our MHGPs. You may decline such an offer, but if you accept this be confident that your level of care will not be any less!
GPs face many challenges trying to address mental health concerns in non-specialist GP clinics. Through no fault of their own, they often lack the expertise, experience, resources and time required to adequately assess and manage mental ill health.
The MHGPs here at the Mindsight Clinic have been specially chosen to work here, given their experience, training, passion and focus on mental health treatment. Crucially, they will take the time and care to get to know you and your concerns.
Beyond that, our MHGPs also enjoy regular training, support, supervision, collaboration, and co-management from our specialist mental health clinicians. This means that when you see one of our MHGPs, you are getting the best of the Mindsight Clinic team!
Our MHGPs are able to conduct telehealth appointments if deemed appropriate. However, in order to receive a Medicare rebate your first appointment must be in person, each calendar year as per Medicare requirements. Please contact us for any queries you might have about this.
